Introduction

For years I've provided consulting and coaching to business owners and leaders of companies both large and small to reach their revenue goals.  They have in turn taught me as much as I've taught them.  I'm known by many of them as "The Biz Coach". 

Over the past several years the number of entrepreneurs who have launched small and home based businesses have continued to increase at an astonishing rate. 

With the first year failure rate for these businesses still hovering between 85-90% I have felt compelled to share the knowledge and information that I have been fortunate enough to acrue over the last 15 years on a larger scale.   The Coach's Corner and the Biz Coach Blog are a great opportunity for me to do just that.  Send me your questions and I'll try to answer as many as I can.

someone with limited experience can learn online marketing strategies or should I go

Cheryl, thanks for the question and believe me, you're not alone in asking it.  If you have a decent amount of capital you can retain a professional firm to create a campaign for you.  I dont know about you but I never wanted to hire someone to do something around the house that I could do myself
if I just brought some patience and extra effort to the table.
 
There are resources marketed and available to teach you SEO and internet marketing fundamentals.  Many of them unfortunately are very technical in nature or full of fluff with no substance.  The best I've found is actually Jeff Johnsons Underground Laboratory 2.0.  He has without a doubt the best Internet Marketing training I've seen.  I personally have used his stuff for years, he's that good.  

So, the answer is yes you can, right now it is difficult to find the information that isnt written by a geek that has the home buisness owner in mind and is an easy read....but there will be so just stay tuned.

I've heard a lot lately about video advertising.  Would you recommend this to anyone looking to do business on the web or just specific business markets?

Thanks Mary and regardless of your business niche let me give you a resounding YES!  Did you know that its a fact that almost 40% of videos are shared with others?  What type of advertising has that type of organic viral power?  I mean it when I say that millionaires have been made by those who properly utilize video marketing alone!

It allows the viewer to bond with you and trust you as well as your message.  One of the biggest overlooked aspects in advertising is that the potential customer must trust the source or the author.  Branding and credibility are paramount and nothing provides that instantly better than video. 

The greatest thing is that video is the only way you can personally get your message across that allows "do overs" to make the first impression.  Dont just do the one take and done.  Keep retaking till you speak with authority and own it. 

Lastly, no many people are doing video advertising and far fewer are doing it well.  Can you say "great opportunity"!?
But if its so successful why wouldnt everyone do it.  Great questions - because of fear.  They've never done it and avoid what they fear.  So conquer yours and kill it!

Hey Biz Coach, was wondering how much you have your finger on the pulse on whats going on  in the world of internet advertising.  What's behind Googles new ad restrictions?  They seem to be flagging everyone I work with.  Help! How do I avoid to get Google slapped?

Greg, thanks for your question and the answer is that my fingers so close I can hear Googles heart beat.  I was actually just writing an article about this subject so look for it in the article section.  Here are the main points:
 
Google has tightened the reigns on internet advertising "big time" effective at the end of August 09 and they did it as a direct result of pressure put on by the FTC, specificly Obama appointed David C. Vladeck who heads up the Bureau of Consumer Protection.  

The end result was the FTC brandishing their big “whooping stick” to put pressure on Google to reign in their biggest moneymaker.  So, if you are advertising a business opportunity that uses extraordinary or unsubstantiated compensation claims, a website template hosted by such a business opportunity which is without original content you are getting flagged, slapped or suspended altogether (aka The Google Slap). 

Like I stated in my article, I know of several affiliate marketers who were spending over $100,000 a month on Google Adwords advertising whose accounts are presently suspended. 

If you’ve been flagged or slapped then look at your site content, where your site forwards too, who hosts it (ie web templates provided by your business opportunity).  This will force many to rethink their business relationships and chosen business opportunity, especially if they are MLM or Network Marketing in nature.
